How to take your snack game to the next level? Believe it or not, heating up tortilla chips can be a game-changer. You don’t have to settle for opening a new bag when your old chips are stale and soggy.

Ingredients:

  • Tortilla chips

Instructions:

How to heat up tortilla chips: Oven Method

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C).
Getting the oven hot before cooking the chips ensures an even cooking process.
  • Arrange the tortilla chips on a baking sheet.
Place the chips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil, ensuring they do not overlap or touch each other. Use only one layer of chips on the tray so they all get an even amount of heat for optimum crisping.
  • Bake for 4 to 5 minutes or until the chips are lightly golden and crisp.
Check the chips every couple of minutes to ensure they’re not burning. The tortilla chips can go from perfectly golden and crispy to burned in seconds!
  • Carefully remove from oven.
Once the chips are ready, remove them from the oven using oven mitts or tongs. The edges of the chips should be perfectly toasty, and they will be nice and crunchy.
  • Let cool before serving.
The chips can be hot to the touch and may burn your mouth if you try to eat them right away. Plus, they’ll be extra crunchy if you let them cool down a bit before digging in! Once you’ve removed the chips from the oven, let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

How to heat up tortilla chips: Microwave Method

  • Line a microwave-safe plate with a paper towel before setting the tortilla chips on top.
The paper towel absorbs the moisture and excess oil from the chips and helps to prevent them from becoming soggy.
  • Lay the chips out evenly on the plate, making sure that none of them are overlapping.
Arrange the tortilla chips in a single layer when reheating in the microwave. This allows the chips to heat up evenly and crisps them without burning.
  • Microwave for 30 seconds. Then check how crisp they are.
Nuke the stale tortilla chips for 30 seconds. Take the plate of chips out and let it sit for a minute at room temperature.
  • Put them back in the microwave.
Microwave again for 15 seconds and check if they are crunchy enough now. Take out and re-check how crisp they are. If you feel like they still need to be crunchy enough, repeat the process one more time until they get that desired crunchy texture.

How to heat up tortilla chips: Air Fryer Method

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400ºF.
Preheating helps the chips heat up quickly and evenly so that you don’t end up with burned bits and undercooked pieces.
  • Place the chips in the air fryer basket.
Don’t overcrowd it – you want to leave room for the hot air to circulate around them. Also, shake your basket every minute to ensure the chips heat up evenly.
  • Put the basket in the air fryer and set a timer for 2-4 minutes.
How long you let it cook depends on your air fryer, but around 3 minutes is usually enough time to heat up tortilla chips perfectly.
  • Shake the basket to distribute heat.
After halfway through the cooking time, take the basket out and shake it up to ensure every chip is getting a chance to crisp up. Shaking the basket allows for even heat distribution, which ensures even cooking.
  • Enjoy your crispy chips!
Once your timer goes off, remove the basket and enjoy your freshly reheated tortilla chips. You can also sprinkle some seasoning on top if you like – chili powder, garlic powder, or any other favorite seasoning will work just fine!
