  • Chilled smoothies are best.
  • You can store leftovers in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

What are the ingredients and substitutions:

  1. Fresh mango: Choose a ripe mango that is soft to the touch. If you can’t find a fresh mango, you can use frozen mango instead. You can substitute frozen mango or canned mango if you’re in a pinch. But fresh is always the best.
  2. Milk: You can use any kind of milk here, but I prefer whole milk for its creaminess. This smoothie is also delicious with almond milk or even coconut milk.
  3. Greek yogurt: Adding this enhances the smoothie’s protein content and adds a creamy, thick consistency. You can substitute regular yogurt or even non-dairy yogurt if you prefer.
  4. Honey: This is my sweetener of choice, but you can use agave nectar, sugar, or condensed milk. Condensed milk will make the smoothie even more creamy.
  5. Boba pearls: These chewy tapioca balls are standard in bubble tea. They add a fun element to the smoothie. You can find them at most Asian markets or online.
  6. Salt: This is just a pinch to bring out the sweetness of the mango.
  7. Optional toppings: I like to top my smoothie with a little bit of everything – mango chunks, diced pineapple, shredded coconut, and of course, more boba balls!

It is best to consume this smoothie immediately, but you can store leftovers in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Just be sure to give it a good shake or stir before drinking. Enjoy!

Tips for making smoothies:

When I started making my smoothies at home, I often found that they weren’t as thick and creamy as the ones you can get at a restaurant. It wasn’t until I learned a few tips and tricks that I was finally able to make smoothies that tasted just as good as (if not better than!) the store-bought kind.

Here are my top tips for making creamy, delicious smoothies:

Tip 1 Add frozen fruits and veggies.

Using frozen fruits and vegetables is key to making a thick, creamy smoothie. Not only do they add a pleasant cold temperature to the smoothie, but they also help to thicken it up. I typically use a mix of frozen and fresh ingredients, but if you want a thick smoothie, make sure to use mostly frozen ingredients.

Tip 2  Use a high-powered blender.

There is probably no better tip than this one! If you want to make a smooth, creamy smoothie, you need to use a high-powered blender. I use a Vitamix, but any high-powered blender will do the trick. If you don’t have a high-powered blender, you might find that your smoothie is a bit grainy or that the ingredients don’t fully blend.

Tip 3  Blend low, then blend high.

If you’re using a high-powered blender, it might seem tempting to turn it on to the highest setting and let it do its thing. However, I find it best to start at a slow speed and gradually increase it. As a result, the ingredients break down better, and the smoothie becomes smoother. Also, make sure to blend for a good minute or two (or even longer!) on the highest setting once everything is fully blended. Your smoothie will be extra creamy if you do this.

Tip 4  Use milk or yogurt for creaminess.

If you want your smoothie to be extra creamy, add in some milk or yogurt, which will add some extra protein to your smoothie. I usually add ½ milk and ½ yogurt, but you can use all milk or all yogurt if you prefer. You could also use coconut, almond, or any other type of milk you like. If you’re using non-dairy milk, make sure to choose one that’s unsweetened so that your smoothie doesn’t end up being too sweet.

Tip 5  Use full-fat dairy products.

Another essential tip for making creamy smoothies is to use full-fat dairy products. Non-fat or low-fat dairy products will make for a thinner smoothie. Whole milk, heavy cream, and yogurt fall into this category.

I like to use whole milk in this mango boba smoothie recipe because it gives the smoothie a rich and creamy texture. However, if you’re looking to lighten things up, you could use skim milk or non-fat yogurt instead.

Tip 6  Add some healthy fats.

Healthy fats are another key ingredient for making creamy smoothies. Nut butter, avocados, and coconut oil are all examples of this. These ingredients help to make the smoothie rich and filling.

I like adding a little coconut oil to this mango boba smoothie recipe. This not only helps to make the smoothie creamy but also gives it a nice tropical flavor.

Tip 7  Add liquids last.

It might seem strange, but adding your liquids last will make your smoothie more creamy. If you add liquids first, they tend to sink to the bottom of the blender and can make your smoothie watery. By adding them last, you help to ensure that everything mixes nicely and that you end up with a smooth, creamy texture.

Tip 8 Use ice cubes.

Adding ice cubes to your smoothie is another great way to make it thick and creamy. Not only will the ice cubes help to keep the smoothie cold, but they’ll also add some volume and body.

If you find that your smoothie is too thick, you can always add more liquid until it reaches the desired consistency.

How about if you’re using frozen fruits already? Do you need to add ice cubes?

It depends on how thick you want your smoothie to be. If you want it to be on the thinner side, you probably don’t need to add any ice cubes. However, if you want it to be thick and creamy, add a few ice cubes.

Extra tips for variations:

If you’re new to the smoothie world, start with a classic like this mango boba smoothie. Once you get the hang of it, feel free to experiment with different fruits, add in greens, and even swap out the milk for non-dairy options.

  • If you want your mango boba smoothie to be extra creamy, add a scoop of ice cream or frozen yogurt. I like the ice cream because it makes the smoothie more like a shake.
  • If you want your smoothie to be less sweet, add less mango or use a less ripe mango.
  • If you want your smoothie to be more tart, add a little lime juice.
  • If you want your smoothie to be thicker, add more mango or use less milk.
  • If you want your smoothie to be thinner, add more milk or use less mango.
  • If you want your smoothie to be icy, add more ice cubes.
  • For a refreshing twist, add a handful of fresh mint leaves.
  • If you want a little bit of sweetness, add a frothy topping like whipped cream or marshmallows.
  • If you want a bit of texture, add some chopped nuts or granola.
  • And finally, if you want a bit of extra flavor, add a splash of your favorite fruit juice or liqueur.

Jumbo boba straw

Using a jumbo boba straw is the only way to enjoy a mango boba smoothie properly! The regular-sized boba straws are just too small, and the boba pearls won’t fit through.

What is jumbo boba straw?

A jumbo boba straw is a wide, reusable straw designed explicitly for drinking smoothies and other thick beverages. The extra-wide opening allows you to drink your smoothie without having to use a spoon, and the straw is long enough that you can get every last drop.

Where can I buy a jumbo boba straw?

You can find jumbo boba straws online or at some kitchen supply stores. Also, many boba tea shops sell jumbo boba straws, so if you’re ever in one of those stores, be sure to pick up straw (or two)!

How do I use a jumbo boba straw?

Simply insert the straw into your smoothie and drink away! The wide opening will allow you to drink your smoothie without using a spoon. The ease of use is one of the reasons why jumbo boba straws are so popular.

Extra tips for using a jumbo boba straw:

  • Try cutting the straw in half with a sharp scissor if it is too wide.
  • You can cut your jumbo boba straws if they are too long with a sharp knife/scissor.
  • You can use a straw cleaner or pipe cleaner to guide your straw into your smoothie if you’re having trouble getting it in.
  • After you finish drinking your smoothie, wash your jumbo boba straw, so it’s ready for next time.

How to store leftover boba

When storing boba pearls, the syrup is necessary. Really? Yes, really. Cooked boba pearls are filled with syrup, so when you store them in the fridge, they will absorb the moisture from the air and become hard. Storing them in syrup will keep them plump and soft.

What kind of syrup? Well, it depends on what you’re using the boba for. If you’re going to be making a smoothie, use simple syrup. If you’re going to be eating the boba plain, use flavored syrup.

Why do I need to add syrup when storing boba?

The simple answer is: to prevent the boba pearls from drying out.

You see, when boba pearls are exposed to air, they start to harden. And once they harden, they lose their chewy texture and become rubbery. Not exactly something you want in your smoothie!

By storing the boba pearls in syrup, you’re essentially creating a little environment where they can stay fresh and chewy. So make sure you don’t skip this step! Also, ensure the pearls are in a sealed container, so they don’t absorb any moisture from the air. It will prevent the pearls from drying out and hardening.

To store the boba:

  1. Add the pearls to a container and cover them with the syrup of your choice.
  2. Seal it tightly.
  3. Just pop them in the fridge, and they’ll be good for up to a week!

When you’re ready to use the boba, rinse them off with water to remove the syrup.

How to make boba pearls at home

If you can’t find any boba pearls at your local store, don’t worry! You can make them at home with just a few simple ingredients.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 cup tapioca starch
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup Taiwanese brown sugar (or brown sugar)
  • A pinch of salt

Step 1
Over medium heat, bring water and sugar to a boil in a small pot. Dissolve all the sugar in the water. You can now turn off the heat.

Step 2
Once the sugar has dissolved, add one tablespoon of tapioca starch and salt to the sugar syrup. Stir until the mixture thickens and becomes bubbly. Don’t let any lumps form.

Step 3
Once again, turn on the heat to medium and bring the mixture to thicken. Turn off the heat and let it cool slightly.

Step 4
Place the remaining tapioca flour and knead until the dough is no longer sticky. If the dough is too dry, add a little water; if it’s too wet, add more tapioca flour.

Step 5:
Flour the work surface with tapioca flour and roll the dough out to ¼-inch thickness like thin rods. Each roll must be skinny as tapioca expands when cooking.

Step 6
Cut the dough into small pieces and shape them into balls. Make sure that each ball is no bigger than a marble. Repeat with the remaining dough. Now you have your dried tapioca pearls!

How to cook the boba pearls

Step 1

To make the boba pearls, place all ingredients in a saucepan and stir over medium heat until the mixture comes to a boil. Then, turn the heat down to low and let the mixture simmer for about 15 minutes.

Step 2

Once the mixture has thickened, turn off the heat and let it cool slightly. Then, use a spoon to scoop out small balls of the mixture and drop them into a bowl of cold water.

Step 3

Let the boba pearls sit in the cold water for about 10 minutes. This will help them to solidify and achieve that chewy texture we all know and love.

And that’s it! Your homemade boba pearls are now ready to be used in any recipe. Enjoy!

How to save smoothies for later

How to save smoothies for later, in the fridge or freezer

It’s great to have leftovers! You now have a delicious smoothie waiting for you in the fridge. Smoothies are a great way to add fruits and vegetables to your diet, but they can be a little tricky to store.

Preventing oxidation is the most crucial step when storing smoothies for later.

Oxidation occurs when the cells in fruits and vegetables are exposed to oxygen. The air causes fruits and vegetables to oxidize, which causes them to turn brown. It’s also what gives smoothies an unpleasant, slightly bitter taste.

To prevent oxidation, you’ll need to limit the amount of oxygen that comes into contact with your smoothie. Do not allow extra air in the container when you’re initially blending the smoothie or storing it. Also important, use a proper size container, so there’s as little headspace (space at the top of the container) as possible.

Once you’ve taken steps to prevent oxidation, you can store your smoothie in the fridge for up to 24 hours. If you want to keep it for longer, put it in the freezer.

When you’re ready to drink your smoothie, take it out of the fridge or freezer and let it thaw for a few minutes. You can also put it in the blender to help it melt more quickly.

Follow these steps, and you’re sure to have a delicious, refreshing smoothie anytime!

How to store smoothies

  • Once your smoothie is blended, pour it into an airtight container. A mason jar with a lid works well, or you can use a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid.
  • Fill the container as full as possible to minimize the amount of oxygen exposure. You can also add a layer of plastic wrap over the smoothie’s top before putting the lid on. Air trapped under the plastic wrap will create a barrier between the smoothie and the oxygen in the air.
  • Label the container with the date and time, so you know when you made the smoothie.
  • Put the smoothie in the fridge and consume it within 24 hours. Just make sure to give it a good shake before drinking, as the fruits and vegetables may settle at the bottom.
  • If you want to store your smoothie for longer, put it in the freezer.

Extra tip:

You can also add a splash of lemon juice as an antioxidant to your smoothie or juice to help prevent oxidation. Antioxidants are substances that slow down or stop the oxidation of other molecules.

Common antioxidants include Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), Vitamin E, and beta-carotene. You can find these vitamins and minerals in many fruits and vegetables, including lemon, lime, and oranges.

How to use up the leftover smoothie

I have a problem every time I make some smoothies; I can never make the amount that I want without making too much and having to either drink it all in one sitting or throw some away. If you’re like me and you have trouble drinking all your smoothies before they go bad, here are some tips on storing them so you can enjoy them later.

But how long can a smoothie last in the fridge?

Ideally, you should drink your smoothie within 24 hours. After that, the ingredients will start to separate, and the smoothie will lose its creamy texture.

However, if you must save your smoothie for later, here’s how to do it:

For short-term storage, simply place the smoothie in a sealed container and store it in the fridge.

1 Use a mason jar:

Mason jars are great for storing smoothies because they’re airtight and keep your smoothie nice and cold. Pour your smoothie into the mason jar and screw on the lid. Then, pop it in the fridge, and it will be good for up to 24 hours.

2 Use an ice cube tray:

If you don’t have a mason jar, you can also use an ice cube tray to store your smoothie. Simply pour the smoothie into the tray and freeze it. Once it’s frozen, you can transfer the cubes into a freezer-safe bag, and they’ll be good for up to 3 months.

3 Use a popsicle mold:

When you want to treat yourself to a smoothie, this is an excellent option. Simply pour the smoothie into the popsicle mold and freeze it. Once it’s frozen solid, you can store the popsicles in a freezer-safe bag, and they’ll be good for up to 3 months. If popsicle mold is not available, use a small paper cup and popsicle sticks instead.

How to thaw a frozen smoothie

When you’re ready to drink your smoothie, take it out of the freezer and let it thaw for about 10 minutes. Then, just blend it up and enjoy!

If you’re in a hurry, you can also place the frozen smoothie in a bowl and microwave it for about 1 minute. The smoothie will thaw faster this way.

Why does my smoothie separate?

If you’ve ever made a smoothie at home, you know that sometimes they can come out a little…separated. The key to a great smoothie is to have all the ingredients well blended. If your smoothie separates, it’s likely because you didn’t properly blend one or more of the ingredients.

Why is that?

It has to do with the water content in fresh fruits. If you keep the smoothie in the fridge, the water separates from the other ingredients and rises to the top. If you use frozen fruits or add some ice cubes, this will not happen because the water is already in a solid form.

Another concern when storing smoothies in the fridge is that they will become too thick. The way to fix this is to add a little bit of liquid (milk, water, juice, etc.) when blending or before serving.

If you’re worried about your smoothie separating when stored in the fridge, there are a few things you can do to help prevent this.

  1. First, make sure to use ripe fruit in your smoothie. Riper fruit has more natural pectin, which can help to bind the ingredients together. Why is that? Pectin is a soluble fiber that helps to thicken liquids and bind ingredients together.
  2. Second, add a thickener like chia seeds or ground flaxseed to your smoothie. Chia seeds are a great source of soluble fiber, which means they can help to thicken liquids and bind ingredients together. These ingredients will help to keep the smoothie from separating.
  3. Another thing you can do is store your smoothie in a jar with a tight-fitting lid and consume it within 24 hours for the best results. This will help to prevent oxygen from getting to the smoothie and causing it to separate.

I like adding a little coconut oil to this mango boba smoothie recipe. This not only helps to make the smoothie creamy but also gives it a nice tropical flavor.
