Slow Cooker Chicken Breast - Honey Sesame Chicken

Jump to Recipe

If you have a rice cooker and slow cooker, you're all set to make a worry-free easy meal that only requires a bit of work near the end when you shred the chicken. This sumptuous Asian style slow-cooked meal doesn't take long and I fudged a bit to cut down on the dishes.

Instead of mixing the sauce in a separate bowl, I mixed it right in the slow cooker, then added the chicken and tossed to coat. I'll let you decide how to make yours by giving you the original way it was made.

I can't tell you how delighted I've been to find all the mouth-watering slow cooker recipes. Even though I've had one for a zillion years, I never used it because all the recipes I found tasted the same---like boiled something with spices.

Slow Cooker Chicken Breast

A lot of people have been busy since these wonderful machines first came out and created recipes that are now so delicious you want to eat them every day and you can without ever making the same one twice for quite a long time. The honey sesame chicken is just one example of restaurant-quality food you can make without breaking a sweat.

Grab these ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

For the Honey Mixture:

    • 1 small onion diced
    • 2 cloves garlic minced
    • ½ cup honey
    • ½ cup of soy sauce
    • ¼ cup ketchup
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Garnish:

      • 1 green onion thinly sliced
      • Sesame seeds

Step by step instructions

1 In a large bowl, combine onion, garlic, honey, soy sauce, ketchup, vegetable oil, and red pepper.

2 Season chicken thighs with salt and pepper, to taste. Place chicken thighs into a slow cooker. Add honey mixture and gently toss to combine. Cover and cook on low heat for 3 hours and 30 minutes.

3 Remove chicken thighs from the slow cooker and shred the chicken before returning to the pot with the juices. Cover and keep warm for an additional 30 minutes.

4 Serve immediately, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

The final step is the most difficult (just kidding). Take out the thighs and shred the meat, then return it back to the sauce in the slow cooker. Just keep this covered and warm for 30 minutes to melt the flavors of the chicken and the juices together.

Serve it over rice with a garnish of sliced green onions and sesame seeds. It's so tender, sweet, and juicy, my mouth is watering right now just thinking of how good it tastes.

I made this tonight almost exactly as the new directions say. I had baked chicken left over from Sunday dinner so I used cooked chicken instead of raw. I just added the chicken and the rice a little later. It was not too thick at all. In fact just perfect. I love soup. Will be a family favorite.
