If you have a rice cooker and slow cooker, you’re all set to make a worry free easy meal that only requires a bit of work near the end when you shred the chicken. This sumptuous Asian style slow cooked meal doesn’t take long and I fudged a bit to cut down on the dishes. Instead of mixing the sauce in a separate bowl, I mixed it right in the slow cooker, then added the chicken and tossed to coat. I’ll let you decide how to make yours by giving you the original way it was made.

The final step is the most difficult (just kidding). Take out the thighs and shred the meat, then return it back to the sauce in the slow cooker. Just keep this covered and warm for 30 minutes to melt the flavors of the chicken and the juices together. Serve it over rice with a garnish of sliced green onions and sesame seeds. It’s so tender, sweet and juicy, my mouth is watering right now just thinking of how good it tastes.

Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken

  1. 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  2. Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
    For the Honey Mixture:
  1. 1 small onion, diced
  2. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  3. 1/2 cup honey
  4. 1/2 cup soy sauce
  5. 1/4 cup ketchup
  6. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  7. 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  1. 1 green onion, thinly sliced for garnish
  2. Sesame seeds, for garnish

  1. In a large bowl, combine onion, garlic, honey, soy sauce, ketchup, vegetable oil and red pepper.
  2. Season chicken thighs with salt and pepper, to taste. Place chicken thighs into a slow cooker. Add honey mixture and gently toss to combine. Cover and cook on low heat for 3 hours and 30 minutes.
  3. Remove chicken thighs from the slow cooker and shred the chicken before returning to the pot with the juices. Cover and keep warm for an additional 30 minutes.
  4. Serve immediately, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
