No matter how small, I'll always love mini tacos.

What are mini tacos?

Mini tacos are essentially the same as regular tacos, but they are smaller in size. This makes them perfect for a quick snack or appetizer. One of the best things about mini tacos is their versatility. You can pretty much fill them with whatever you like. Whether you want them with beef, chicken, or pork – there's a mini taco recipe for everyone. And, since they are small, they are also perfect for sharing! And, if you're looking for ways to make them even better, look no further than your air fryer.

What size are mini tacos?

The tortillas for mini tacos are typically 3-4 inches in diameter. This is significantly smaller than the 7-8 inch tortillas used for regular tacos. The smaller tortilla size gives mini tacos their cute and miniature appearance. Mini tacos are also often served as appetizers or snacks, which is why they are smaller in size. They are perfect for popping in your mouth in just a few bites!

What are mini tacos called?

In Mexico, mini tacos are called Tacos Dorados. Small corn tortillas are fried until crisp and used in these foods. Afterward, you can fill the taco with your favorite fillings. The mini tacos are then rolled and fried until golden brown. These crispy little tacos are absolutely delicious and perfect for any occasion!

Why air fryer is the best way to cook mini tacos?

Crispy food without oil is possible with air fryers. This will result in crisp, delicious mini tacos without the extra fat and calories. It's a win-win!

Another great reason to cook mini tacos in an air fryer is that it is quick and easy—no need to heat a large pan of oil or wait for the tacos to cook. Place them in the air fryer, and you're done.

Plus, air fryers cook food evenly and quickly. This is the perfect way to cook mini tacos, as they only take a few minutes to cook through. Besides, you can't beat the ease and convenience of an air fryer! So, next time you're in the mood for mini tacos, try them in your air fryer. You'll be glad you did!

What do you need:

Cooking frozen mini tacos are pretty much the same as cooking fresh mini tacos. The only difference is that you will need to cook them for a few minutes longer since they are frozen. Preheat your air fryer to 375° F and cook the tacos for 5-7 minutes, or until crisp.

I love using Trader Joe's frozen mini tacos. They are so convenient and taste great! It's my go-to when I'm short on time or just don't feel like cooking. They are also very affordable, which is always a bonus.

You can pair them with your favorite toppings, such as sour cream, salsa, or guacamole. Or, keep it simple and just enjoy them as is. I like to nosh them with some salad on the side. They make a great and easy weeknight meal!

To make mini tacos in an air fryer, you will need:

  • I'm using frozen store-bought mini tacos here.

If you prefer to make your own mini tacos:

  • A package of small corn tortillas - I'm using Mission brand
  • Your favorite fillings - I like to use shredded chicken or ground beef, cheese, lettuce, and salsa
  • An air fryer - I'm using the Cosori brand

How to make mini tacos in the air fryer

Step 1

Preheat your air fryer to 375° F. Why reheat the fryer? Because you want the mini tacos to be as crisp as possible. If the fryer isn't hot enough, it won't crisp up. Trust me; it's worth the extra step!

Step 2

Place the frozen mini tacos in the basket of your air fryer. You don't need to defrost them first. Arrange them in a single layer so that they are not touching. Leave a bit of space between each one so that the hot air can circulate and crisp them up evenly. How many you can fit will depend on the size of your air fryer.

Step 3

Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until crisp. Flip them halfway through so they crisp up evenly on both sides and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes.

Step 4

Remove from the air fryer and enjoy!

Tips when cooking frozen mini tacos in the air fryer

  • Do not overcrowd the basket. If you crowd the basket, the tacos will steam instead of crisp up.
  • If your frozen mini tacos are not crisp after 5-7 minutes, cook for a few minutes longer.
  • Try not to flip them too often.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on the size and power of your air fryer. If you want to keep them warm, place them in a preheated oven set to 200° F until you are ready to serve them.
  • If using the full box of store-bought frozen mini tacos, you will need to cook them in batches.

How long to air fry mini tacos

The timeframe depends on how many you're air frying at once, what sort of air fryer you have, and how crisp you like your tacos.

Generally, it'll take three to five minutes to air fry mini tacos. If you want them extra crispy, cook for closer to five minutes.

If you crowd the basket, it'll take longer to cook since the hot air won't circulate as well. You can use a small air fryer, but you must cook them in batches anyway.

Another factor is whether you're cooking frozen or fresh mini tacos. If they're frozen, add a minute or two to the cooking time.

As always, cooking times may vary depending on the size and power of your air fryer. Start with the shorter end of the spectrum and add time as needed to reach your desired level of doneness.

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375° F before cooking the tacos.
  • Cook the tacos in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • Cook for 5 minutes, or until crisp, flip on the other side, and continue cooking for two to three additional minutes.
  • Remove from the air fryer and enjoy! If you're using the entire box of store-bought frozen mini tacos, you must cook them in batches.

Note: Cooking times may vary depending on the size and power of your air fryer. If you want to keep them warm, place them in a preheated oven set to 200° F until you are ready to serve them.
